Walk-In Tub Installation in Tulsa, OK

Buying the right tub is half the job — proper installation is the other half. Here's what a professional walk-in tub installation in a Tulsa home actually involves, and why it's not a DIY project.

The installation process, step by step

  • In-home measurement — alcove dimensions, door swing clearance, water heater capacity and drain location are confirmed before anything is ordered.
  • Old tub removal — the existing tub is disconnected and removed; cast iron tubs common in older midtown Tulsa homes are broken out in sections.
  • Plumbing adjustments — supply lines and drain are adapted to the new tub's configuration; many installs add dedicated shutoff valves.
  • Setting and leveling — the tub is set, leveled and secured; an out-of-level walk-in tub won't seal or drain correctly.
  • Surround and sealing — walls are finished around the new unit and every joint is sealed.
  • Fill test and walkthrough — the tub is filled, drained, and leak-checked, and you're shown the door, controls and any jet systems before the crew leaves.

Why water heater capacity matters

Walk-in tubs hold more water than standard tubs — often 50+ gallons. Many Tulsa homes run 40-gallon water heaters, which fill the tub lukewarm. The consultation checks your heater and, when needed, the same project can include a larger or tankless unit so the tub works the way it should from day one.

Ask about electrical requirements if you're considering a hydrotherapy model — jet and heater systems need a dedicated circuit, which the installer can arrange.

Common questions

How long does walk-in tub installation take?
Most installations are complete in 1–2 days when the tub fits the existing footprint. Projects with wall changes, water heater upgrades, or non-standard plumbing can take a day or two more.
Can I install a walk-in tub myself?
It's strongly discouraged — sealing, leveling, drain conversion and (for jetted models) electrical work all have to be right, and an improper install voids most manufacturer warranties. Professional installation protects both the tub and your home.
Does installation include removing my old tub?
Yes — removal and disposal of the existing tub is a standard part of the project, including cutting out cast iron tubs that won't fit through doorways whole.
